Five additional roads approved for construction in Kwara State
Others are Oko-Idofin-Igbana-Idofin Odo-Ase road awarded to Messrs Construction Products Limited, Offa-Irra road to be handled by Chelfom Engineering Construction Limited and Post Office-ITC junction road awarded to Borini Prono Nigeria limited. Contractors for the five newly approved roads have been mobilized to site to commence work immediately on the project.
According to the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engineer Kola Shittu, the award for the commencement of the road project in the dry season would further enhance the quality of the job. The Commissioner disclosed further that the award of the contract at this period would bring into reality the commitment of Dr Saraki-led administration to complete all the on-going projects including the newly approved ones within the stipulated time frame.
Speaking on the development, Mr Deji Oni, a Community leader from Oke Ero Local Government described the award of the road projects as the greatest thing to have happened to the people of the State. He noted that, “you know we are farmers; I mean our people are predominantly farmers, with these construction and opening of more roads in the rural areas, it would enable us to bring to urban centres our farm produce and thereby empowering our peopleâ€.
The road he said, “when completed would not only boost the socio-economic lives of the people but would also stem the rural-urban drift coupled with the completed rural electrification projects across the Stateâ€.
Also commenting, Mr Jolade Balogun, from Offa in Offa Local Government, who was full of praises for the Chief Executive, said the people would ever remain grateful to the Governor in his well thought decision to have approved the construction of the roads at this point in time. According to Balogun, Offa being one of the commercial nerve centres of the State would further attract more entrepreneurs to the State nay Offa, adding that the people will not forget in a hurry the unprecedented development that Dr Saraki’s administration has brought to the State. The Governor, however, appealed to users of the affected roads to cooperate with the contractors so that the project could be completed on schedule.
