Press Release: Look inward for assailants of Ajibola, Kwara APC tells PDP

Date: 2015-02-08

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has advised the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to look inward within the PDP fold for the assailants of its governorship candidate, instead of blaming everyone except itself.

The APC was reacting to speculations in a section of the media that the governorship candidate of PDP, Senator Simeon Ajibola and his supporters were allegedly attacked by supporters of APC in Share, Kwara State.

In a statement signed by APC Publicity Secretary in Kwara State, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari, the party said, "if indeed, Senator Simeon Ajibola and his supporters were attacked, then, the attack is condemnable.

"We advise the PDP to look inward within its fold for the assailants of its gubernatorial candidate, instead of blaming everyone except itself. The PDP can not continue to wish away its intra-party crises?. Many of the governorship aspirants who lost out at the controversial primary election of the PDP are still aggrieved till today. Perhaps, supporters of one of the aspirants attacked the PDP governorship candidate.

"The people of Kwara State should also not forget that this speculated attack on Senator Simeon Ajibola happened just 24hours after our party called on the Police Command to investigate the involvement of Senator Ajibola in the perpetual political violence perpetrated by PDP sponsored thugs in Kwara State.

"The desperate PDP could as well mastermind the attack to divert the attention of the Police from investigating its governorship candidate. With the desperation in the camp of the PDP, we have no doubt that its governorship candidate ?could even sponsor attack on himself in a failed bid to generate public attention and sympathy in order to shed off the promoter of violence toga on himself.

"It is on record that PDP thugs loyal to Senator Ajibola ambushed and attacked the advance team of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed ?at Isapa recently. If the PDP-sponsored attack on its gubernatorial candidate in Share is an attempt to show Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed in bad light, the plan has not only failed but has also fell on PDP's head. Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed is above such sentiment and the people of Kwara State who he has governed consistently and productively for about 4 years know him well enough to be a man of flawless and unimpeachable character. The PDP should stop spreading falsehood and face its intra-party crises.
