Court stalls Kwara PDP senatorial candidate's replacement
An Ilorin High Court has ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to stop any move to replace a candidate for Kwara Central Senatorial District, Yinka Aluko, pending hearing on suit on it.
Following alleged move to replace his name, Aluko, who won the Kwara Central Senatorial ticket of the PDP for the 2015 elections approached the court to protect his candidature and restrain his opponent, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, from parading himself as the party's candidate.
Daily Trust reports that Aluko was declared winner of the December 7 senatorial primary after polling 83 votes to defeat Abdulrazaq who got 81 votes.
However, there have been speculations over alleged move to substitute his name with Abdulrazaq as the state PDP chapter said only the national secretariat has final say on the primary outcome.
Abdulrazaq who was the runner-up during the primary had gone on air at the weekend, saying he had been handed the senatorial ticket after the appeal panel upturned Aluko's election, but Aluko dismissed such claims.
In the court document obtained by Daily Trust, Aluko, among other prayers, urged the court to refrain Abdulrazaq from parading, presenting and or addressing himself as the Kwara Central Senatorial candidate, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive motion on notice, which the court granted.
The case filed before Justice A.O Akinpelu of the state High Court, had the PDP, its National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, National Secretary, Wale Oladipo, INEC and Abdulrazaq as co-defendants. The suit was adjourned to January 6, 2015 for further hearing.
