Kwara PDP guber aspirants shun security meeting

Date: 2014-11-27

Almost all 13 governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State were absent at a meeting called by the state police command yesterday, leading to its indefinite postponement.

The meeting was called by the police command to discuss and brief the aspirants on security arrangements ahead of the December 8 primaries of the party.

Commissioner of Police, Mr. Salihu Garba, confirmed the development in a chat with newsmen. He regretted that only one aspirant, Professor Shuaib Abdulraheem, briefly appeared at the meeting while five others were represented. According to the commissioner, two aspirants, Bio Ibrahim and Alhaji Jani Ibrahim, called to say they were held up in Abuja.

Garuba stressed that the physical presence of the aspirants was required to ascertain their positions ahead of the primaries.

"It is important we meet to synergise. Surely, we could have gone ahead with our preparations on our own, but it's vital we meet to disagree and agree on various issues, e.g proliferation of arms and ammunition among others", he added.

Meanwhile, the state police command has paraded recovered and abandoned arms and ammunition discovered two weeks ago.
