Ember months: Transport workers warn against night trips

Date: 2014-11-11

The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Kwara State has warned members against night trips, especially during these Ember months.

Chairman of NURTW in the state, Alhaji Issa Ore, said that will reduce road carnage on highways.

Speaking with Daily Trust correspondent in Ilorin, Ore also urged motorists to always ascertain the condition of their vehicles and their road worthiness before setting out on a journey.

He noted that the nation's highways are always very busy during Ember months and urged motorists to be cautious while driving.

The NURTW boss added that a task force has been put in place to conduct thorough checks on vehicles belonging to union members before they embark on trips.

He said "They can even stop you on the highway to check the brake and other necessary things. These are the measures we put in place to have accident-free Ember months."

He stated that the union has stipulated the number of trips a driver can make in a day.

The chairman appealed to drivers to desist from drinking and smoking while on the road.
