Kwara APC strategises for victory in 2015
The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) will leave no stone unturned to ensure the success of the party in the state ahead of 2015 general elections.
Kunle Adeyemo, one of the leaders of the party, made the declaration in a statement made available to Daily Independent on Wednesday.
According to him, "Since the APC released its time-table for the conduct of the party primaries into all the elective offices few days ago, ambitious members of the party have been positioning themselves to clinch party tickets and the leadership in the various states are equally working out winning strategies.
"As for Kwara South Senatorial District with seven local government areas, which happened to be the home base of the incumbent state Governor, Abdulfattah Ahmed, who was recently endorsed by the leader of the party in Kwara State, Senator Bukola Saraki, and other stakeholders for a second term in office, the race has become swift."
"The Southern Senatorial District is significant to the leadership of the APC in Kwara State on many sides. One of such is the fact that the sitting senator from the area is the only senator out of the three senators that refused to come with Saraki structure into the APC.
"The challenge the party will face in the area may be different and fiercer than that of North and Central Senatorial Districts."
"Therefore, the choice of a sellable and acceptable candidate by the APC should be the first area of concentration of the party's strategists to confront the impending challenges that the opposition may pose. In determining a sellable and acceptable candidate, the party may look into the following amongst others."
"The party should evolve an acceptable zoning arrangement; consider the interest of the constituent entities within the party, ethnic standing, equitable sharing of other positions and other salient factors.
Zoning Formula: The first factor that can help the party to achieve a rancour-free primaries is for her to evolve an acceptable zoning formula that takes into consideration the two federal constituencies within the senatorial district.
"The Ifelodun/Oyun/Offa Federal Constituency should be allowed a shot at the Senate this time around since the other end of Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero/Ekiti has occupied the seat for close to 14 years, which could simply be termed as third term in office," he said.
