KWARA 2015: 200 aspirants eye offices in Kwara PDP - Belgore

Date: 2014-10-08

No fewer than 200 aspirants for 35 elective positions in the 2015 general elections have submitted letters of intent to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kwara State.

A governorship aspirant, Mohammed Dele Belgore, SAN, disclosed this on Sunday while addressing his supporters at an Eid-el-Kabir luncheon in Ilorin.

Belgore said the development was peculiar in the 48-year-old Kwara State "where a family had over the years forbidden citizens of the state from aspiring for offices, except positions the family allocated to their choice persons, whether qualified or not."

He said the multiplicity of aspirants in the state chapter of the party showed that the state had risen "beyond anyone singularly deciding who rules it from his bedroom."

According to the onetime gubernatorial aspirant, "Everyone has a say in PDP; unlike in the APC. That we have many aspirants in the PDP is a sign of liberty, it is a sign that we now have democracy.

"Recently, their leader raised one person's hand and that was all. Everyone has cowered; they can no longer aspire.

That is tyranny. It is not so in Kwara PDP." Belgore pleaded with the people of the state to vote for the second term of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, pointing out that the presidential election, which will come up first, will have a great effect on subsequent elections. "Let us vote en-masse for President Jonathan.

The moment he wins the first, it will mean that we have also won in Kwara State," he stated.
