PDP Youths In Kwara Call For Generational Change In Governance
Youths from different segments of the society have called for a generational change in governance for effective delivery of dividends of democracy.
The youths were mostly members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State and they have resolved to plead with the party in the state to field a youth in the 2015 governorship election for the party to be victorious.
Representatives of various youth organizations from 16 Local Government Areas of the state, converged to discuss what they termed urgent matter for the interest of the youths in Kwara State. They include students and members of the youth wing of the People's Democratic Party.
The first verbal salvo was thrown by the National Secretary of National Youth Frontier which was under the office of the National Youth leader of PDP, Mr Mukhtar Akoshile, who noted that it was time for the youth in Kwara State to take over the reins of governance.
He noted that the change was needed for the youths to contribute to the socioeconomic development of the state and challenged the national leadership of the party to heed their call in the state.
Other representatives of different youth organizations also lent credence by canvassing for generational change in governance for youth in the state.
Mr Segun Olawoyin, who is the youth leader of the People's Democratic Party in the state, urged the youth to always stand by themselves. He added that most of the leaders of different countries in the world were able to achieve success when they were young.
At the end of the nearly two hours deliberation, a former President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, who had become a chieftain of the People's Democratic Party in the state, Mr Ben Duntoye, described the youths as powerful and that they could make things happen positively anytime.
He challenged the youths to always negotiate within political parties in the country, adding that the future cannot be left in the hands of the older generation but youths with ideas to positively turn around the country.
While commending the youths within the party for encouraging his candidature, he considered it as a call to service; a call which he believed, if allowed to materialize, would ensure the emergence of good and laudable programmes.
