Press Release: Kwara PDP condemns attempt payment of severance allowances

Date: 2014-04-25

The Kwara State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the attempt by the state government to pay the severance allowance of public office holders who served in the last administration as condemnable.

It is obvious that this is another antics of the All Progressive Congress (APC) led government at ruining the economic fortunes of the state knowing well that the said sum of money has since been released en bloc by the federal government to all states of the federation at the appropriate time.

We are certain that while all other states have received their money and that Bukola Saraki-led government was an exemption. It is not only frivolous that the Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed-led government will be paying a debt inherited by his predecessor but it is also fraudulent on the part of the acclaimed progressive minds.

It is our wish to know what the Bukola Saraki-led government had used the money meant to be used as severance allowances of public office holders and the reason why it was delayed till this period when it is obvious that the APC will not be re-elected in 2015.

We see this act as a deliberate attempt to incapacitate the incoming PDP government with volumes of debts and abandon projects as payment of these allowances at this time will cause more havoc on the economic status of the state.

Also, we challenge the APC government to subject the issue of N 23 billion bond it sought for to a town hall debate among members of the public and feel the pulse of the vast majority of Kwarans on the merits and demerits of its planned actions.

Going through the State House of Assembly may not really reflect the minds of the people as we understand and believe that the lawmakers will not do otherwise but approve the demands of their party even at the expense of the masses.
