Kwara State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, has distributed items worth over N8 million to its members across the state.

Items distributed included deep-freezers, washing-machines, laptops, motorcycles, generators and building materials among others.

Speaking at the NUT secretariat, Asa-Dam road, Ilorin the chairman of the union, Alhaji Abubakar Musa, said the programme was made possible through   the union's monthly contribution by the members, explaining that repayment would be done within six months to two years depending on the items obtained.

At the event titled: "End well to empower the teachers", the chairman explained that the programme was designed by the state wing of NUT to empower its members as a way of discouraging teachers from obtaining bank loans.

This, he said, would enhance the welfare of its member and make them self-sustaining after retirement, stressing that the exercise would be a continuous one.
