Alleged accidentally discharged bullets from the gun of a vigilante have killed a 75-year-old woman, identified as Ibitokun Sheu, in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Sheu, who hailed from Alomata compound, Kamaldeen Street, Oke-kere, Ilorin, reportedly died after she was felled by the bullets.

The incident occurred at Alore area of the metropolis, on Monday at about 8:00pm, while the aged woman was returning home from visiting a friend.

One of the sons of the deceased, Ibrahim Ashiriabo, described the sudden death of his mother as painful, but stated that the family "has taken it as an act of God".

According to Ashiriabo, the gun of the vigilante had fallen to the ground while he was riding a motorcycle along Alore area, with his wife and children, and he had told his wife to pick it up.

"When the wife was trying to pick the gun, she applied pressure to the trigger mistakenly and bullets hit my mother in the stomach," he said.

Ashiriobe added that his mother died from the gun-shot injuries.

When contacted, the spokesman of the state police command, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the incident, but also pointed out that the bullets also hit three other persons while they sat in their shops. Okasanmi said that these other three were responding to treatment at a private hospital in Ilorin.
