Resist actions that can ridicule judiciary - Justice Akanbi advises CJN
Justice Mustapha Akanbi, the retired President of the Court of Appeal, on Tuesday advised Justice Aloma Mukhtar, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, to avoid actions which could bring judiciary into disrepute.
Akanbi, who was also the pioneer Chairman of ICPC, gave the advice in Ilorin when he received Mukhtar and other Supreme Court justices who paid him a condolence visit over the death of his wife, Alhaja Aduke Akanbi.
Akanbi commended Mukhtar and the other justices for the visit, saying: "The visit of the CJN and her team marks the climax of all the condolence visits since the demise of my wife.
"I believe the coming of CJN to my house shows that I am still part of this big family,"he said.
Akanbi prayed to God to make the legacies of the CJN in efforts to promote the country's development enduring.
Earlier, Mukhtar, who described the death of Akanbi's wife as shocking, assured the retired justice of the judiciary's support at all times.
"It is sad we lost Hajiya at this time when we will need her most.
"Although, we did not see her often in the judiciary, she had been very nice to us,"she said.
Mukhtar implored Akanbi to take his wife's death as an act of God, while accepting His will at all times.
"Whatever happens, there is nothing we can do but to thank Allah and whatever you do as a father, we will always extend our hands of fellowship to you,"she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the CJN led other justices of the apex court and the Chief Judge of Kwara, Justice Ayinla Bamgbola, in the condolence visit. (NAN)
