Govs task corps members on unity
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara and Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State have urged youths posted to their states for the one-year national service to use the opportunity to foster unity among various ethnic groups participating in the service.
Ahmed on Thursday urged new corps members to take their orientation course seriously.
He stated that such would enable them to meet the challenges which lie ahead of them during their service year.
Ahmed, who was represented by the state's Head of Service, Alhaji Mohammed Dabarako, spoke during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2013 Batch 'C' corps members at the NYSC orientation camp, Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area of the state.
The governor charged the corps members with justifying the confidence reposed in them by the country.
He added that they should make good conduct, peace, honesty and hard work their watchwords.
Aregbesola also spoke on Thursday at the swearing-in ceremony of 2014 Batch C corps members deployed in the state at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Ede, Osun State.
He said, “The service year is equally expected to offer you an opportunity to interact with your colleagues from different religious, ethnic, linguistic and cultural backgrounds so that you can appreciate our unity in diversity.
“ The oath of national service which you have pledged your allegiance to is very significant in many ways. Most importantly, as a reminder of your statutory obligation to the nation. You are therefore implored to put the nation first in all that you do.”
He urged the corps members to join the state government in its community development efforts.
The state coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Mojibola Eboagwu, said that 2120 corps members had registered at the camp as of 12 midnight on Thursday.
She advised members to pay attention to skill acquisition programme they would be exposed to during the orientation, saying the skills would be useful to them.
