Unilorin Lecturers Share ASUU's Vision

Date: 2013-10-23

Academic staff of the University of Ilorin, though not part of the current industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) also share in the vision of the striking lecturers, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali has said.

Ambali said the staff decided long ago to guarantee the university's academic stability and ensure that the students graduate at the right time.

He said this in his address at an event to herald activities for the 29th convocation ceremony of the university.

The vice chancellor urged all parties in the current ASUU strike to put the interest of students in mind, saying prolonged idleness could make them vulnerable to anti-social thoughts and actions.

"Let me use this medium to appeal to all stakeholders in the education sector, especially the Federal Government and the university staff unions to embrace dialogue as an effective way of solving industrial dispute. We should always put the interest of the students first and do everything necessary to ensure that they are not left idle even for a minute", he said.
