Keep pace with physiological advancement, don tasks govt
Professor Ayodele Olufemi Soladoye of the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin has charged government to consider the establishment funding of a well of equipped physiology laboratory in each of the six geo-political zone of the country in order to keep with advancement in the field of physiology.
The physiologist gave the charge while the charge while lecture titled "Physiology of Human Heart and Blood Pressure: The Survival Game", at the University Auditorium last Thursday.
At the academic level, the expert appealed for substantial funding that would ensure state of the art physiology equipment are stock for teaching and research which according to him, is and moving in the molecular level.
He added that incentives should also be provided to attract physicians back into the physiology profession as it was previously practiced by the founding fathers.
The physiologist stressed the need for physiology departments to undertake regular awareness programmes that would bring town and gown together for informal education of the public on physiology.
Towards promoting healthy cardiac, he advised people to cultivate healthy lifestyle, good nutrition and regular aerobic exercise.
Speaking on blood pressure, Soladoye advised people above the 40years to embark on regular check of Blood Pressure.
He identified parasympathetic stimulation; sleep decreases and lowers heart rate as factors that could affect the heart.
The professor also noted that sympathetic stimulation, body temperature, fever, typhoid muscular exercises and anxiety amongst others, increase heart rate.
The inaugural lecture which was the l04th of its kind in the University was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, principal officers, other professors and students of the University.
