Kwara ACN urges probe into threat to election tribunal secretary's life
The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Kwara State has urged security agents to probe the alleged threat to the life of the Secretary to the election petitions tribunal, Mrs. Uju Mesiobi-Emeto.
Some faceless persons were said to have threatened to “deal with her” for refusing to sign some documents.
In a statement yesterday, ACN Chairman Kayode Olawepo described the alleged harassment as cowardly and condemnable.
He said: “We call on the security agencies to probe the incident, expose and bring to book the individuals behind such dastardly act, no matter how highly placed they may be in the society.
“This action is an attempt to intimidate the Judiciary and subvert the cause of justice. We condemn it in the strongest words available.
“We call on the cowards behind such act to desist forthwith because the whole world is interested in seeing what actually transpired in Kwara before, during and after the polls, and any attempt to cover up anything by way of harassing or threatening the strong-willed men and women in the Judiciary, which is the last hope of the common man, will be resisted by all men and women of goodwill.
“Finally, we call for immediate security beef-up around all the tribunal Justices and the Secretary, because the shameless elements would do everything to want to foul the judicial process, including silencing anyone standing in their way.
“Again, we demand security beef-up around all the materials used in all the elections because those threatening the life of a judiciary worker, who is doing her lawful job, will go to any length to destroy any evidence against them.”
