Journalists urged to promote unity through reportage
Journalists in the country have again been called upon to use their profession to promote unity among Nigerians irrespective of religious or ethnic affiliation.
The Grand Kadi (Chief Judge) of the Kwara State Sharia Court of Appeal, Justice Salihu Oloruntoyin Muhammed made the call during a visit of members of the Executive Committee of the National League of Veteran Journalists to his office in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
According to him, “only religious tolerance and harmony could promote meaningful peace and progress in the country, hence there is need for Journalist to always emphasize values that would unite Nigeria.”
Justice Muhammed who is a Patron of the League commended the body for appointing men of integrity and character as Life Patrons. He assured the Journalists of collaborative efforts to further sustain the aims and important roles of the League.
Another Patron of the League, Reverend Cornelius Fawenu advocated religious tolerance among adherents to further sustain the Country's peaceful co-existence.
Earlier, the Chairman of the National League of Veteran Journalists, Reverend Samuel Akindele explained that appointment of Patrons and life Patron for the League was based essentially on their integrity, track record of achievements and service to God and humanity.
Reverend Akindele who noted that the League would be clocking 20years, called on all to join hands with the body to facilitate a memorable anniversary.
