Ahmed on causes of security break down

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State yesterday in Ilorin called for coordinated strategic response in combating prevailing security challenges in the country.

Speaking at a Security Summit organized by Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union(IEDPU), the governor attributed the cause of disturbances in the Northeast to the breakdown of family and religion values.

He therefore admonished parents to rise from their slumber and give their wards proper upbringing for them to be useful in the society.

Governor Ahmed who frowned at the rate at which political class are aiding and abetting touts to secure their political ambitions, urged them to refrain from the practice.

He also spoke about his administration efforts at strengthening security of life and properties in the state, stressing that no stone would be left unturned in guiding against the incursion of the disturbances in the state.

The governor who reiterated that issue of security of all must be responsibility of all, said all hands must on deck in nipping the hydra-headed situation on board.

According to him, “Security agencies should synergize and work together as a team and shun all forms of rivalry among them”.

Governor Ahmed who promised to champion campaign against insecurity said religious leaders and other individuals should not renege in their efforts in strengthening peaceful co-existence in the country.

The governor further pointed out that education and family re-orientation should be addressed if security of life and properties is any to be achieved.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin who double as the Chairman of the occasion, Prof Abdulganiyu Ambali who blamed the problem on family failure called on parents to rise to their responsibility and gave their ward their wards proper upbringing.

The IEDPU National President, Alhaji Abdulhamid Adi had earlier in his remarks said the growing security challenges hence the summit.

Adi who recalled with dismay the rate at which youths which according to him are future leaders, are into smoking cannabis, drugs among others submitted that the situation needed urgent attention.

His words:” Following our coming on board in December last year as elected executives of our great union, we observed the growing security threat in Ilorin, the renowned peaceful citadel of Islam and capital city of the state of Harmony.

“In particular, street fightings, which the general opinion of the people put its responsibility squarely on our politicians, and other forms of violence in the city and its environs have gradually crept into our midst and are becoming the order of the day; causing serious discomfort, agony and despair to indigenes and resident alike”.
