Jamb, losing its credibility - Opobiyi
The Provost of the Kwara State College of Education Ilorin, Kwara State, Dr. Isiaka Opobiyi has posited that the aims and objectives of the Post UTME examination is fast eroding.
Speaking with Pilot Education in his office recently, he noted that the exercise have been abused, adding that admission processes in some institutions were still fraught with irregularities and fraud.
While pointing out that though the examination has helped in validating JAMB results of candidates, he said the process was losing credibility as some institutions manipulate it to their advantage.
He said,“Yes the initial objective of the post UTME examination has not been realised; the initiators had good intention but along the line something perhaps changed the whole exercise.
“You will discover that in some institutions despite the fact that the post UTME is there to validate the results of the candidates, they manipulate it to their advantage and that of some applicants.
“Some applicants gain admission even when they did not meet up with the required score."
Speaking further the provost called for the reform of the examination, stressing that the present method of conducting the post UTME examination have contributed to the unimpressive performances of candidates in recent time.
“I am not calling for its cancellation, but the examination could be modified. Why can’t we have a uniform post UTME examination when we have a single JAMB examination for all the tertiary institutions in the country?
“We can set aside certain days and week for the examination. The way the examination is being conducted makes the students to be jittery over the exercise,” Opobiyi added.
