Ilorin fracas: Kwara police command investigates politicians.

Date: 2014-06-22

KWARA State police command says it has commenced investigations on suspected politicians who doled out money to hoodlums to share, leading to recent political crisis, mayhem and deaths in Ilorin state capital.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin while parading 14 suspects linked to the public disturbance, the state police commissioner, Mr. Ambrose Aisabor, warned politicians to stop money politics forthwith or they would be dealt with according to law of the land.

The police boss, who said none of the politicians are above arrest, added that the nation’s constitution clearly spelt out those covered by immunity.

“This is a strong warning to politicians both living in and outside the state. Politics is a game of choice, where you don’t force people. Instead of coming to the state occasionally to distribute money, why not empower your people by setting up cottage industries and not give peanuts that fight over and kill themselves for”, he said.

He also reiterated that the police command would not tolerate political thuggery, rascality and irresponsibility, adding that anyone caught would be decisively dealt with.

The police boss, who also paraded three suspected criminals for being in possession of fake currencies, said the suspects were arrested on Monday at 9:40 pm by the command’s eagle eyed special team on patrol of Old Jebba road.

He said the police team intercepted the suspected criminals in a Toyota Starlet commercial vehicle, adding that fake currencies totalling N1,320, 000:00 in N1,000, N500 and N200 notes and 14 packs of US Dollar notes, cleverly packed in black sack were recovered when the vehicle was throughly searched.

Aisabor also said that the suspects; Mohammed Haruna, Kayode Abdulrauf and Oladele Olaniyi of Isale Aluko, Ilorin were arrested, adding that one Omo Alhaja, who was the alleged fabricator of the fake currencies was presently at large.

Also paraded was one suspected fake medical doctor, Adams John Aye, who was accused of criminal trespass and impersonation.

The suspect, said to had been on wanted list of the command for multiple medical offences, was arrested at the state’s Civil Service Clinic, Ilorin while parading himself as a medical doctor and canvassing for patronage.

The police boss, who said the suspect would soon appear in court, added that the suspect was a rusticated medical student of University of Maiduguri and had confessed to the crime.
