"My husband does not sleep at home," wife tells court
A housewife, Mrs Mariam Bello, on Monday prayed an Ilorin Area Court to dissolve her marriage to Isiaka Bello because he was in the habit of not sleeping at home.
The 30-year-old woman of Maraba area, Ilorin, Kwara, told the court that her husband was in the habit of attending night parties and stayed till dawn.
She also accused her husband of beating and molesting her in the presence of their neighbours. ”Whenever I questioned him about his movement, he beats me mercilessly,” she said.
Mariam also told the court that their marriage was contracted in 2010, adding that her husband did not have time for her and their only child.
“I am fed up with his lifestyle; so I want the court to dissolve our marriage,” the plaintiff pleaded.
In his response, Bello objected to his wife’s prayer and begged the court not to dissolve their four-year-old marriage. ”I am not ready to divorce her because I still love her,” he told the court.
Bello also told the court that his wife was having extra-marital affairs with other men in their neighbourhood.
I decided not to sleep at home sometime because of her attitude to other men in order to frustrate her,” he said.
Bello prayed the court not to grant the prayer of his wife, and promised to make reconciliation steps to settle the matter amicably.
The presiding officer, Mr Yusuf Abdulkareem, adjourned the case to April 3 for a report on settlement or continuation of hearing.
