The Utility Of Indigenous Language Cannot Be Ignored - FRSC Zonal Commander

The Zonal Commanding Officer (RS8), Federal Road Safety Corps, Ilorin, Kwara State, Assistant Corps Marshall Kehinde Adeniyi Adeleye, has described the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) as a versatile Institute especially with the exemplary of leadership of the Executive Secretary, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, which owes the Nigerian society much in the protection of her pride.

Mr. Kehinde made this known when a NICO team from the North-Central Zone, led by the Coordinator, Mr. Ibrahim Lawal, paid him a courtesy visit at the Federal Road Safety Corps Zonal Office, Ilorin, Kwara state.

He opined that our Indigenous language is of great importance and that it cannot be taken for granted, adding that NICO's Nigeria Indigenous Language Programme (NILP) will go a long way in saving the younger generation from the embarrassment of becoming strangers in their home and promised to encourage his officers and men and their children/wards to participate.

In a similar development, the newly deployed Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ilorin, Kwara State, Commander (Mrs.) Mary Wakawa, has described the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) under the leadership of Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, as an institute with foresight and determination to pursue its mandate logically.

Wakawa gave the commendation when the NICO North-Central Zonal team, led by the Coordinator, Mr. Ibrahim Lawal, also paid her a courtesy visit as part of the sensitization exercise in preparation for the 4th Edition of the one-month intensive Nigerian Indigenous Language Programme (NILP).

She expressed her satisfaction with the magnitude of programmes and activities carried out by the Institute, both at the national and zonal levels, especially the indigenous language programme, which is geared toward making Nigeria and Nigerians one, irrespective of their differences in culture and other aspects of life.

Commander Wakawa signified her desire to learn Yoruba language, as an Executive Student, and also made known the Command's willingness to sponsor officers and men to participate in the 4-week programme.

Earlier in his remarks, the Coordinator, NICO North-Central Zone, Mr. Ibrahim Lawal, told his host that they were in the Command to welcome her to the State of Harmony and to also map out possible areas of collaboration, highlighting activities of the Institute to include, workshops, seminars, and national conference, training cultural officers, Nigerian dress culture, and Nigerian indigenous language officers, among others.

He said that the Nigerian Indigenous Language Programme (NILP) was designed to serve as a unifying force in breeding mutual trust and good peaceful co-existence among Nigerians.

In company with the Zonal Coordinator at the visit were Mr. Bamidele Toyin, Mr. Ariyo Adeoti, Mr. Olaniyi Aweda, Mrs. Wasilat Ibrahim, and Miss Ajuma Edeh.
