An Ilorin Magistrates' Court has remanded a middle aged man, Gbenga Sunday, for allegedly defiling a five-year-old girl.

The accused was alleged to have lured the victim into his room and had carnal knowledge of her on June 20 at Railway line area of Ilorin.

According to the charge sheet, the accused, who was a neighbour to the victim's parent, lured the baby to his room and had carnal knowledge of her.

The prosecutor, Inspector Godwin Azua, told the court that investigation into the matter was ongoing.

Azua told the court that the accused was arraigned on a one-count charge of rape,  contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code Law.

He objected to the bail for the accused and urged the court to remand him in prison custody.

Magistrate Adebayo Adeniyi ordered the remand of the accused at Mondala Prison Yard, Ilorin, and adjourned the case to July 23.
