President Olusegun Obasanjo and former military president Ibrahim Babangida were among dignitaries who condoled former Governor, of Kwara State, Alhaji Muhammad Lawal on the death of his father, Alhaji Busari Alabi Alasa the Mogaji Are of Ilorin.
In a letter addressed to Lawal, read by the Baba Isale of Ilorin, Alhaji Zakariyau Aleshinloye at the 8th day fidau for the deceased, Obasanjo told the children and relatives of the deceased to take solace in the fact that their father lived a worthy life.
Obasanjo recommended the virtues and good deeds of the deceased not only to his children but also to his community.
Babangida who led the Niger and Sokoto States governors, Alhaji AbdulKadir Kure and Alhaji Attahiru Baffarawa to the ceremony, described Lawal's father as a father in a million and said his wise counsel and fatherly advice shall be greatly missed.
Other dignatories at the ocassion included, deputy governor of Osun State, Erelu Olusola Obada who brought the condolence message of her boss, former military governor of old Oyo State, Brigadier- General Tunji Olurin, (rtd) former governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Abubakar Audu, Senators' Sulaiman Ajadi and Is-haq Salman, Olufunke Adedoyin, chairman of Independent and Corrupt Practise Commission (ICPC), Justice Mustapha Akanbi and member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Yekinni Alabi.
In his sermon at the ceremony, an Islamic cleric, Alhaji Shuaib AbdulSalam described death as an inevitable end of all mortals and admonished guests to fear their creator at all times.
The cleric reminded them that the message of death was for the privileged to constantly remind themselves that the less priviledged must be taken care of from their wealth.
He said there was need for the privileged to show love to the less priviledged in order to reduce unrests within the community.
To staff of the presidency and chairman of ICPC, AbdulSalam reminded them of the cold war among royals in the Ilorin community and advised them to resolve the feud.
Lawal, in his response, thanked the president and guests at the ceremony for the sympathy shown.
