Teacher docked for alleged kidnapping
An Arabic teacher, Abdulmumini Kareem, 27, yesterday appeared before an Ilorin Magistrates' Court for allegedly attempting to kidnap one, Rukayat Suleiman.
The accused, who was a neighbour to the victim, was alleged to have entered her house and kidnapped the girl on June 10 in Isale Koko Area, Ilorin.
According to the charge sheet, the accused told the victim to put biscuit inside a polythene bag, containing a calabash wrapped with white cloth in his hand which made the victim unconscious.
The charge sheet revealed that one, Akande Ismail, intercepted Kareem and the victim on their way when he discovered that the little girl was unconscious. Ismail alerted people of the area who got the accused arrested.
The accused however, pleaded not guilty, to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Kareem Jimoh, told the court that the accused was arraigned on a one-count charge of attempted kidnapping, contrary to Section 95 of the Penal Code.
He objected to the bail of the accused on grounds that the alleged offence was not bailable.
The Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Adeyanju, in his ruling, released the accused on bail in the sum of N10,000 and three sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to June 26.
