Unuanel in Dilemma over Sunshine Offer

Date: 2013-06-01

Kwara United of Ilorin coach, Samson Unuanel is said to be in a dilemma over the offer made to him by the management of Sunshine Stars on the wake of the sacking of Samuel Abimbola.

Weekend SoccerStar gathered that the Edo State born gaffer was contacted immediately after Abimbola was sacked on Tuesday but Unuanel, who expressed delight with the offer is delaying making a firm commitment to the Sunshine management.

A source close to the former Ocean Boys handler said Unuanel had dreamt of working with the Executive Director the Ondo State Football Agency (OSFA) and Coordinator of Sunshine Stars, Mike Idoko but he’s considering his robust relationship with Kwara United management and the supporters.

“It’s true Unuanel was contacted for Sunshine Stars’ job but the likelihood of him leaving Kwara United is slim. He has been dreaming of working with Idoko and the opportunity has now present itself but with his robust relationship with Kwara United management, especially the chairman, Barrister Toyin Aluko and the supporters is making him having a rethink,” the source said.

Although Weekend SoccerStar learnt that both Unuanel and officials of Sunshine Stars met a secret location on Monday where negotiation was opened but details were still sketchy as at press time.

And in order not to be caught unwares, the management of Sunshine Stars has also opened discussion with three other coaches should the negotiation with Unuanel falls through.

Among the coaches they are discussing with include a former coach of the side and former assistant coach of the Super Eagles, Fatai Amoo, a former coach of Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Football Club of Ilorin, Erasmus Onuh as well as former Kwara United and current coach of Apa United, Tunde Sanni.

Unuanel’s mobile lines were switched off as at press time but a close aid of the former Enyimba International coach said Unuanel is seriously considering the offer but at a dilemma because he does not want to turn Idoko down just as he’s avoiding the backlash from Kwara United end.

“It is true that Sunshine Stars made contact with coach. Himself and Mike Idoko have discussed at length and all things been equal he may join Sunshine Stars next week.”
