An Ilorin, Kwara State Magistrates' Court on Thursday remanded a Togolese, Phiaparu Janna, for allegedly killing one Usman Bello with a machete.
The accused was alleged to have conspired together with one Nicholas, now at large, and hit the deceased with a machete, thereby causing his death, on May 3 at Mushe village in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to the prosecution, the accused and his accomplice are both citizens of the Republic of Togo, but now residing in Kaiama where they practice farming.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Isaac Yakub, alleged that the deceased reared his cattle into the accused farm land to destroy their farm crops, which later provoked reaction by the accused.
Yakub told the court that the accused was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, contrary to the Penal Code.
He objected to the bail of the accused on the ground that the alleged offences were not ordinarily bailable.
Magistrate Silifat Sambo, in her ruling, ordered the remand of the accused in Mondala Prison Yard, Ilorin.
She adjourned the case to June 14 for mention.
