Let There be Equity in Kwara - Igbomina Youths
Youths in Kwara State under the aegis of Igbomina Youth Assembly, IYA, yesterday decried the ‘inequality’ in both the federal and state quotas on employment. The youths expressed their grievances at a summit of the organisation in Ilorin, the state capital.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the one-day summit held at the Igbomina House, Ganmo, they also expressed concern over the issuance of the state of origin certificates by local governments in Igbomina land to people they claimed were non-indigenes.
In the communiqué signed by the IYA National President, Mr. Shuaeeb Oyewole and the Secretary, Prince Samson Olawepo, the group regretted that the Igbomina land, a prominent sub-ethnic group in Kwara State, consisting of three local governments of Irepodun, Isin and Ifelodun had nothing to show for it.
According to the youths, the area is contending with social and economic uncertainties while majority of its political class are divided and self-centred.
Other issues raised in the communiqué include the alleged undue subordination of both the traditional and political leadership of Igbomina land and the resistance by people ‘lacking adequate knowledge of the land’ but now fronting for the people.
