Emir of Ilorin urges more attention on security studies

Date: 2012-03-13

The Emir of Ilorin,Kwara State, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has charged participants of the Executive Intelligence Management Course 5 of the Institution of Security Studies, Abuja, to use their knowledge and wealth of experience in addressing the security challenges facing the country.

Alhaji Sulu-Gambari gave the charge while receiving a team of the course participants who paid him homage at his palace.

He stressed the need for the study group to explore the state and utilise its findings for the betterment of Nigerians.

The Emir, who described security services as very interesting but challenging task, said the course participants should justify the confidence reposed in them by their respective agencies during and after the programme.

He said gone were days when Nigerians could sleep outside their houses overnight without fear of armed robbery attacks, regretting that section 419 of the Criminal Code has become a Nigerian language of fraud and high profile corruption at all levels.

The traditional ruler attributed the prevailing security threats in the country to the aftermaths of the civil war of 1967, stressing that Nigeria could surmount her shortcomings with the support and steadfastness of all.

He prayed God to grant the team His blessings to accomplish its set objectives.

Earlier, the leader of the team, Mr Musa Baba, had told the Emir that they were at his palace to receive his royal blessings for a successful study tour, adding that the team comprised nine course participants drawn from security agencies, and regulatory agencies, among others.

He stressed that other participants are also undertaking their study tours of Kaduna, Nassarawa, Abia and Akwa Ibom states, noting that the purpose of the exercise is to assess the situation of things and report to the institute for necessary action.

The team leader, who is a directing staff of the institute, said the participants are expected to be agents of change in their various establishments after the nine-month course, whose theme, according to him, is "National security and the transformation agenda."

Other areas visited by the team include Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) 330/132/33 KV Ganmo Power Sub-station, the University of Ilorin School of Preliminary Studies, Fufu and Pepele Waterworks in Ilorin East Local Government Area of the state.
