Wolves defeat 10-man Kwara United
Warri Wolves on Sunday April 28 2013 secured their second victory of the season as they defeated 10-man Kwara united team 2-1 at the Warri City Stadium.
While the first victory of the season for Wolves over El-Kanemi was much easier, Sunday's win against the Afonja Warriors was hard-earned as the visitors looked determined to earn a point from the Warri City Stadium despite playing a man down for the major part of the second half of the Week 9 Nigeria Professional Football League fixture.
Wolves took a slim 2-1 advantage after 45 minutes and a goalless second half saw the result remain after 90 minutes.
A brace from Najere Musa had previously given the South-South Landlords a two-goal cushion before Kwara United reduce the deficit from a 36th minute goal by Sidi Lawal.
Opener
Najere opened scoring for Wolves in the 13th from the penalty spot as he calmly converted his spot kick to give the host a deserved lead after several incursions into the visitor's vital area.
Another careful teamwork from Wolves saw Najere netting the second goal in the 23rd minute.
Coach Samson Unamel of Kwara United soon made an early change as he introduced Taiwo Sunday into the game, that tactical decision soon paid off as Kwara registered their first goal in the 36th minute.
Second half
On resumption of the second half it was Wolves who had the first chance and a dangerous clearance by Kwara keeper Suraju Aiyeleso adjudged to be inside the box was ruled as a free-kick by the center referee.
Goal keeper Aiyeleso was however given the marching orders by the referee as the injured Wolves forward Najere had to be stretched out.
Despite the one-man disadvantage Kwara pressed more for an equaliser and they looked to have been denied a penalty after a push from defender Thank God ike in the 75th minute.
The host held their nerves despite the added seven minutes extra time and kept their 2-1 lead to secure their second win of the season and as well stretched their unbeaten run to 8 matches .
