We are Endangered, Kwara NMA Cries Out
Nigerian Medical Association, Kwara State chapter, on Tuesday raised the alarm that the lives and properties of medical workers in the state were endangered.
The chapter Chairman, Prof. Mikhail Buhari, said this during a media briefing on the killing of the state’s immediate vice-chairman of the Nigerian Medical Dental Association of Nigeria, Dr. Ariyo Adewunmi.
He added that medical institutions and facilities in the state lacked basic amenities to protect health professionals from attacks.
He said no less than 10 medical practitioners had lost their vehicles to car-jacking and robbery, either at their places of work or while transiting to and from work.
He appealed to the government to make the environment enabling for them to continue to save lives.
Buhari said, “As an association, the moment we feel it is no longer safe to work under the present state of insecurity, even at the risk of disruption of services, we will adopt the ‘safety first’ approach.”
