Medical Expert Advocates Extensive Research on Infertility
Prof Augustine Orhue of University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has claimed conventional infertility treatment had not produced cure for 60 per cent of the infertile population, while urging medical experts to carry out extensive research on its causes and cure.
Orhue, an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist made the assertion in Ilorin while delivering a lecture titled “Assisted Reproduction Technology in the current context of infertility treatment” at the University of Ilorin Teaching hospital (UITH), advised couples to seek medical help in cases of infertility.
According to him, there were different medical procedure that women could undergo which included Invitro fertilisation and embryo transfer among others, noting that infertility has devastating consequences on couples, especially women as it could lead to disharmony, divorce, violence, suicide and other psychological disorders.

Royal FM correspondent, Olarotimi Oshin who was at the event reports that the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Abdulwaheed Olatinwo, in his closing remarks, said knowledge imparted during the lecture would enhance positive development of the hospital, adding that the stigma attached to the disease had left some from seeking medical help.
