The Kwara State Ministry of Communications has stepped up measures to safeguard the integrity of local airwaves and prevent the spread of electoral misinformation across the state as the election season approaches.

The State Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, disclosed this during an operational review meeting with the Ministry's Radio Monitoring Unit aimed at evaluating existing monitoring systems, identifying operational gaps and enhancing overall preparedness.

Speaking on the strategic importance of the unit, Hon. Olukoju emphasised that the ministry's role extends beyond basic broadcast tracking to proactive information management and crisis prevention.

"Every message can shape a community, and in an election season, what goes on air can either strengthen peace or undermine it," Olukoju stated. "Our responsibility is about staying ahead of misinformation, understanding emerging narratives, promoting responsible communication, and ensuring that the airwaves contribute to peace, stability, and informed civic participation across Kwara."

Highlighting the critical reach of radio, particularly among grassroots communities, the Commissioner stressed the need for rapid response capabilities and intentional media engagement to maintain public trust.

She noted that effective public communication requires a balanced approach centred on active listening and civic responsibility to ensure Kwara State remains informed, peaceful and connected throughout the electoral cycle.
