Date: 2026-08-11

The Patigi Local Government Council has received a team from the Nigerian Army following the approval of a new Army battalion in the area as part of efforts to strengthen security across the local government.

The Executive Chairman of Patigi LGA, Hon. Ahmed Adam Rufai, led members of the council in receiving the team from the Office of the Chief of Army Staff.

The team subsequently paid a courtesy visit to the palace of the Etsu Patigi and Vice Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Highness Dr Ibrahim Umar Bologi II.

Also present was a delegation from the Kwara State Government led by the Special Adviser on Security, Hon. Muyideen Aliyu, as well as officials of the Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KWGIS), who conducted a survey of the approved site for the battalion.

Rufai commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for their continued efforts to address security challenges confronting Patigi and other parts of the state.

He described the approval of the battalion as a significant step towards strengthening security and protecting lives and property in Patigi, noting that the local government is one of four in Kwara State selected to benefit from the new military formations.

The council chairman said the establishment of the battalion would boost the security architecture of the area and provide residents with greater confidence and protection.

The Etsu Patigi, speaking on behalf of the Patigi Emirate Council, also expressed appreciation to the President and the Governor for their commitment to tackling insecurity in the local government.

The approved battalion is expected to have sub-units strategically located in major areas of Patigi LGA to enhance the rapid response capabilities of security agencies and strengthen protection for communities.

The team leader, Major General O. D. Williams, thanked the council chairman and the Etsu Patigi for the warm reception and assured residents that the battalion would be deployed in due course following the inspection and survey of the approved site.

The development is expected to further strengthen security operations and improve the protection of lives and property across Patigi Local Government Area.
