Bolakale Kawu Emerges PDP Governorship Candidate for 2027
Nigeria Rural Electrification Agency (NREA) former Executive Director, Bolakale Kawu, yesterday clinched the Kwara State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket for next year.
Kawu's choice as the PDP standard bearer came barely two days after the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) picked Kwara State House of Assembly Speaker, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu.
The Chief Returning Officer of the primary election, Senator Duro Faseyi, announced the results and commended PDP stakeholders and aspirants for conducting themselves peacefully throughout the process.
Faseyi also praised former Senate President Bukola Saraki for sustaining the PDP structure in Kwara State and contributing to democratic development in the country.
According to him, the maturity displayed by the governorship aspirants showed that the PDP was prepared for victory in 2027.
"It is now certainly sure that the maturity you displayed will testify to the fact that 2027 is a sure victory for PDP," Faseyi said.
Kawu called on party members to remain united and focused ahead of the 2027 governorship election, declaring that only a united PDP can reclaim power and deliver people-oriented governance in the state.
The primary, conducted across the 193 wards in the 16 local government areas of the state, saw Kawu polling 98,998 votes to defeat his closest rival, Ladi Hassan, who secured 2,125 votes.
Kawu stressed the need for unity, inclusiveness and collective commitment among party faithful, saying the PDP must present itself as a credible alternative capable of moving the state forward.
"We want a government that cares and works for everybody regardless of political differences, religion and ethnicity," he said.
