Kwara: NPC to embark on scientific random selection of households

Date: 2013-02-26

The National Population Commission (NPC) has concluded arrangements to embark on scientific random selection of 45 households in Kwara State for the 2013 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS).

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin, on Monday, the NPC federal commissioner in Kwara State, Alhaji Abubakar Ndakene, said a team of trained NPC supervisors and interviewers would conduct the survey in 12 out of the 16 local government areas of the state.

The NPC federal commissioner, who said women between the ages of 15 and 49 years and men of age 15 and 49 years would be interviewed in 23 clusters of the state, added that the survey would provide demographic data for national planning.

“The NDHS provides detailed information on the levels and trends of fertility, family planning, maternal and child health and STIs/HIV/AIDS in the country every five years,” he said.

He said the information on the demographic and health status of the population would be useful in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of intervention programmes in the health and social sectors.

The NPC boss, who said that all information collected during the interviews would be treated with confidentiality, appealed to people to cooperate with the interview teams for the success of the programmes.
