The Kwara State under-18 football team have clinched the trophy at the inaugural President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's tournament in Katsina State, defeating the Bauchi under-18 football team 8-7 on penalties.

The Youths Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) competition, which began on October 26, saw its final match end goalless in regular time, pushing the contest to a tense shootout.

Both sides thrilled fans at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium with excellent football and energetic displays. However, strong defending from both teams ensured no goals were scored during regular play, setting the stage for the dramatic penalty decision.

Katsina's outgoing Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Aliyu Lawal-Zakari, presented Kwara with the trophy and gold medals.

Joined by YSFON leaders, he praised all the teams for their commitment and resilience throughout the tournament.

Bauchi received silver medals, while hosts Katsina claimed bronze after beating Sokoto by one goal.

15 states took part in the tournament, they include Ondo, Kaduna, Bauchi, Kwara, Kano, Jigawa, Zamfara, Kebbi, Gombe, Sokoto, Yobe, Niger, Kogi, the FCT, and Katsina.
