Kwara State Police Commissioner Adekemi Ojo has ordered the immediate arrest and trial of officers accused of extorting N200,000 from Taiwo Kayode Taye, a student of Federal Polytechnic, Offa.

The incident occurred when Taye was travelling to Osogbo and stopped by the Anti-Cultism Unit at Erin-Ile on Tuesday. Officers allegedly demanded he unlock his mobile phone, which he refused. He was then forcibly transferred to Ijagbo Police Division, where his refusal reportedly angered officers, prompting a move to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Ilorin.

At SCID, Taye was allegedly coerced into transferring N200,000 to an account under the name Lucy Akor. Commissioner Ojo confirmed the case during a telephone briefing in Ilorin, stating: "This conduct is unacceptable. I am deeply embarrassed and have ordered the arrest of all implicated personnel for trial."

The extortion sparked outrage among Offa Polytechnic students, who flooded social media demanding justice. The Commissioner's swift action underscores his administration's zero-tolerance stance on police misconduct.
