Kwara Trains 1,325 Teachers in Foundational Literacy Drive to Boost Pupil Outcomes
Kwara State Government has launched a foundational literacy training programme for 1,325 public primary school teachers across the state, in partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and New Globe Educational Services.
The initiative, flagged off at a ceremony in Ilorin, focuses on two core components:
Foundational Literacy Skills: Enhancing early-grade teaching methods to drive measurable improvements in pupils' reading and comprehension.
Springs and Stride: Equipping educators with digital tools and critical thinking frameworks to boost classroom productivity.
Professor Shehu Adaramaja, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), stated: "This programme ensures sustained annual progress in literacy outcomes for pupils in government schools. Springs and Stride empowers teachers with problem-solving skills and software proficiency to modernise instruction."
Training sessions are underway at multiple centres, including Bishop Smith School (Ilorin West and East LGAs) and LGEA School, Idofian (Asa, Moro, and Ifelodun LGAs), as part of Kwara's broader education transformation agenda. The SUBEB Chairman urged teachers to be punctual and conduct themselves professionally in order to gain maximum value from the training. In her remarks, UBEC Deputy Director, Mrs. Patience Abasi, commended the Kwara State Government for its commitment to revitalising the education sector. Mrs Olaide Abel, who represented New Globe Educational Services, lauded the administration's efforts in positioning Kwara at the forefront of education development in Nigeria.
