Kwara to Purchase Waste Compactors

Date: 2013-02-09

The Kwara State government has approved the immediate purchase of  10  waste compactors as part of measures to improve waste management in the state.

Mr. Kayode Towoju, the state Commissioner for Environment and Forestry, disclosed this on Friday in a statement in Ilorin.

The statement, signed by the Press Secretary in the ministry, Fatimah Amuda, quoted the commissioner as expressing delight at the recent approval of  the Asa River channelisation by the Federal Government.

Towoju stressed that the project would go a long way in solving the major ecological problems in the state.

He also said that the Gbagede waste management facility  would soon commence operation, adding that there was  the need to provide a long term solution to evacuation and disposal of waste.

The commissioner said the financial capability, equipment and personnel of each waste contractor  were  essential for service delivery.
