Man arraigned for stealing armoured wire at University Teaching Hospital

Date: 2025-04-14

A 39-year-old man, Ibrahim Isiaka of Atere Compound in Apalara, Ilorin (the Kwara State capital), was arraigned before an Ilorin Magistrate's Court on Friday over allegations of stealing electrical armoured wire at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).

According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), the defendant confessed during questioning to committing the offence for the fifth time before his arrest. The FIR stated that he was apprehended by UITH security personnel while allegedly carrying out the theft.

Security staff, as outlined in the report, handed him over to Oke-Oyi Divisional Police Headquarters in Ilorin East Local Government, which subsequently charged him in court. He faces counts of criminal trespass, mischief, and theft under Sections 248, 362, and 286 of the Penal Code Law.

The FIR stated that "at about 0500 hours on the 9th of April, 2025, there was a power failure at UITH, Ilorin and the vigilante men on duty discovered that someone was cutting an electricity armour wire.

"While they are trying to trace the person, they saw you, Ibrahim Isiaka 'M' cutting the armour wire and immediately you sighted them, you started running away and hit your head on a satellite dish and fell down before you were finally apprehended and handed over to the police for discrete investigation," FIR read.
