Ogbole Makes Immediate Impact in Libya, Securing 2-0 Win for Olympic Azzaweya
Nigerian striker Emmanuel Ogbole has made an impressive start to his Libyan career by scoring on his full debut to help Olympic Azzaweya secure a 2-0 victory over Al-Ittihad yesterday.
The 21-year-old, who was Kwara United's top scorer and claimed the Golden Boot in last season's Nigerian FA Cup, joined Olympic Azzaweya in the Libyan Premier League during the January transfer window.
After making his debut as a substitute in Olympic Azzaweya's 1-0 win over Abu Salim, Ogbole was handed his first start by head coach Hamdi Bataw, leading the line against Al-Ittihad. The young forward repaid the coach's faith with a stunning performance, showcasing his talent in the 41st minute. He expertly controlled a loose ball before unleashing a powerful volley from outside the box, giving Olympic Azzaweya a 1-0 lead at half-time.
Al-Ittihad's attempts to equalize were thwarted by Olympic Azzaweya's solid defense, and the away team ultimately sealed a 2-0 victory with Tidjani Anaane's 69th-minute goal to secure all three points and increase their unbeaten streak to ten games.
Following their victory, Olympic Azzaweya have taken top spot in the Libyan Premier League with 24 points from 10 matches, edging out second-placed Swehly SC, who have an outstanding game, by a single point. Al-Ittihad, meanwhile, remain in fourth place with 14 points.
Olympic Azzaweya's next challenge is a home match against Al Tersana on Friday, while Al-Ittihad seek to bounce back with an away game against Swehly SC on Saturday.
