Kwara Government Continues Renovation of More Primary Health Cares Centres

Date: 2024-11-23

As part of efforts of the Kwara State Government through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), in ensuring that quality health care services are delivered at all government owned facilities, the State Government has again flagged-off the renovation of three additional Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) in the State with a view to improving access to quality and affordable health care services.

At the flag-off ceremony, the project sites were handed-over to various Contractors at different locations to commence renovation of the facilities.

The facilities are Adana PHC (Kaiama Local Government Area); Budo Egba PHC (Asa Local Government Area); and Oke-Onigbin PHC, (Isin Local Government Area).

The Executive Secretary, Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Nusirat Elelu, officially handed-over the projects to the qualified Contractors that are going to take possession and renovate these facilities after fulfilling the procurement process, adding that work should commence immediately on the three health facilities.

Dr. Elelu who was represented by the Director, Personnel, Finance and Supply, Mr. Ajide Olayioye, described the handing-over of these health facilities as another landmark intervention and a huge win for the State Government by bringing health care services closer to the people at the grassroots.

She noted that this initiative is a key component of the Federal Government's commitment to improving Primary Health Care facilities in Nigeria through the BHCPF, stressing that it aligns with the strategic blueprint and reflects the dedication of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu and the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to enhance health care services in Kwara State as well as shows the crucial roles of these facilities to improving health outcomes and community well-being.

Dr. Elelu appreciated the Governor for prioritizing the health sector and for his untiring efforts at ensuring that Kwarans have access to quality and affordable health care services, irrespective of their geographical locations.

The Executive Secretary urged community members to make the best use of the upgraded facilities once completed and encouraged them to patronize the PHCs in their communities, emphasising the importance of the increase in health care subscriptions at the primary level.

The Executive Secretary pointed out the employment opportunities that would be created for members by these facilities and called on community leaders and members to take ownership and support the health centres. In his response, the Onigbin of Oke-Onigbin, Oba Kamaldeen Salawudeen, expressed his commitment to ensuring that quality is delivered in the rehabilitation process and assured the Contractor of the community's support throughout the project.

On his part, the Alangua of Budo-Egba, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed, appreciated the Governor for considering his community for such a lofty project and pledged maximum cooperation of the community members to the Contractor when the project commences.

Speaking on behalf of other contractors, Bettycom Nigeria Limited, expressed his gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for prioritizing community health care and assured that the projects will be executed and delivered in due course without compromising the quality of the job.
