Oro Kingdom Indigenes Protest Planned Installation of Oba Oyatoye
As reported by Nigerian Tribune, concerned residents and indigenes of Oro Kingdom in the Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have appealed to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to halt the planned installation of Oba Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye as the new Oloro of Oro Kingdom, as reported by Nigerian Tribune.
The residents, led by Baale-Olufayo of Affin Oro, Prince John Ogundokun, claim that Oba Oyatoye is not from a royal Ruling House in Affin Oro and was allegedly imposed and sponsored by the state commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Hon. Abdullahi Abubakar Bata.
The appeal comes after the staff of office was presented to the new Oloro of Oro Kingdom, Oba Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye, by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who was represented at the occasion by the deputy governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi, in Ilorin on Sunday afternoon.
The residents and indigenes of Oro Kingdom have expressed their dissatisfaction with the planned installation, citing concerns about Oba Oyatoye's eligibility and the alleged imposition by the state commissioner.
The people said that kingship tussle of Oro kingdom has led to litigation at the Omu Aran Magistrate Court, with the hearing on matter scheduled to hold on November 4, 2024.
They urged Governor Abdulrazaq to uphold the sanctity of the law, by respecting the judiciary.
According to Ogundokun, “It is contempt of court for the government to neglect court and go ahead with the installation of an Oba”.
He, however, urged the governor to shun injustice, nepotism, power play, imposition, corruption and show fairness, compassion and listen to the voice of the people, and allow justice take its cause.
Ogundokun also urged Governor Abdulrazaq to stop the installation and presentation of Staff of Office to Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye Titiloye as the new Oloro of Oro as Second Class monarch in the Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, by exhibiting fairness and equity.
He added that by doing this, the people of the Kingdom will have a sense of belonging, and also see the governor as a father of all, who shuns corruption injustice and imposition against the will of the people.
