NUC Approves Establishment of Kwara State University of Education
According to a news report from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of the Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin.
The institution becomes the second state-owned and funded university in Kwara, following the establishment of Kwara State University, Malete, in 2009.
Presenting the letter of recognition to the Deputy Governor of Kwara, Kayode Alabi, in Abuja on Tuesday, the Acting Executive Secretary of the NUC, Chris Maiyaki, commended the state for its foresight.
Maiyaki highlighted that the new university would be the 64th state-owned university and the 274th in the Nigerian University System. He praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for this initiative, emphasising that it would help address the high demand for university education in the region.
'”I write on behalf of NUC. that with effect from Tuesday, July 30, 2024, Kwara State University of Education Ilorin is recognised as the 64th state-owned university and 274th University in Nigeria.
“The approval is consequent upon the receipt of your letter dated July 15, notifying NUC of the establishment of Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin, ” he said.
Maiyaki said the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) had been notified of the establishment of the University.
On his part, the Deputy Governor assured NUC of adequate funding of the university to benefit Nigerian students.
He disclosed that the state government had produced a robust master plan, academic brief and the enabling university law for the smooth take-off of the institution. (NAN)
