Kwara Set to Join League of Top Squash Classics, Hosts as Ultra Modern Facility Nears Completion
Kwara appears to be set to reclaim its top spot in Squash in Nigeria after it emerged that the state governor, Mall. Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq, is leaving no stone unturned to complete what might well be first ultra modern squash court in the whole West Africa sub region. Squash classics as far as Nigeria is concerned has always been restricted to Lagos.
But with the spanking new 10 court squash facility set for launch, the state government is planning big on the game which would be having a non competitive presence in Paris 2014 Olympics.
“Yes, the governor is very keen on hosting an international Squash Classics in Kwara,” explained Coach Bola Mogaji, executive chairman, Kwara State Sports Commission, KSC.
The Chairman did not reveal other details of the planned event but insisted that it will be big, “So big and so unlike what has been seen in the sub region,” he said.
The state government is making unprecedented investment in sports, making the sector fourth in Kwara after Health Education and Works.
“The governor sees sports as industry and cheapest place to invest money and reap maximum benefit in youth engagement,” the commission boss told journalists in Ilorin.
