Unilorin Expels Masters Student Over Misconduct

Date: 2024-01-23

The Management of the University of Ilorin has expelled Mr Mathew Adeboye Balogun, a.k.a Plato for misconduct.

Balogun, a Master's student in the Department of Councilor Education at the Faculty of Education, was expelled from the university after it was determined that he had perpetrated acts of sexual molestation against vulnerable students and applicants.

This was contained in a letter of notification of expulsion issued by the University's Students Affairs Unit with Reference number: UIL/SAU/SAO/2024/01, and signed by the Deputy Registrar, Student Affairs, Moses Opaleke, a copy of which was made available to journalists.

“Balogun was invited to appear before the Student Disciplinary Committee on October 16, 2023, which he failed to honour. When he showed up at the second sitting on October 19, 2023, of the Student Disciplinary Committee, he admitted to the second charge against him for misconducting himself so that he took unlawful and undue advantages of vulnerable students and admission seekers,” the letter noted.

It also hinted that Balogun's offence was contrary to “Clause 3(a) viii, 3(b) and 4(k) of the Students' Information and Regulations Handbook”.
