Kwara NUJ Condemns Illegal Hike in Price of Fuel
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kwara State Council, has condemned the illegal hike in the price of petrol by some independent markers in the country. The union made the condemnation in a communique issued at the end of its meeting in Ilorin.
In the communique made available to newsmen on Thursday, the NUJ urged the Federal Government to ensure uninterrupted supply of petrol to ease the sufferings of Nigerians. The communique was signed by the Secretary of the union, Mr Bisi Adedayo, and the Chairman, communique committee, Mr Abdulhakeem Garuba.
The union expressed concern over the violence in some parts of the country, adding that the violence was inimical to peace, orderliness and development of the nation.
The NUJ also expressed dissatisfaction over the poor state of electricity supply in the country. It said that poor power supply posed serious constraint to industrial production and employment creation for over 30 million unemployed Nigerian youths.
It urged the Federal Government to focus attention on power generation in order to boost power supply in the country. The union also expressed concern at the poor state of roads in the country and its negative impact on the image of the country and investment drive of government. It called on the Federal Government to rehabilitate the Offa-Erinle and Omu-Aran-Kabba federal roads in order to stop the carnage and armed robbery attacks on the roads.
