Kwara State Government has finalised arrangements to hold a sports summit in the state to brainstorm on how to discover more talents from the grassroots.

The summit will also enable the state government to come up with a blueprint for sports development at all levels in the state.

Special Assistant to Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed on Sports, Alhaji Suleiman Olokooba dropped the hint in Ilorin Tuesday at the presentation of baseball and softball kits to ten secondary schools in the state.

The benefiting secondary schools include; Busari Alao College, Emmanuel Baptist College, Effective College, Kingdom Heritage College and Eucharistic School, all in Ilorin.

Others are Trilium School, Sapati International College, Queen Elizabeth School, University of Ilorin Secondary School and Messiah College in Ilorin.

The event was sponsored by Jani Ibrahim Baseball and Softballs Equipment Support Programme.

Alhaji Olokooba lauded the gesture as it one of the ways to help discover talents from the grassroots.

He added that the state would was more than determined to ensure sports development and talent hunt in the state.

"This mindset informed the voting of over N1 billion to sports by the state government in this year's budget. This is unprecedented in the history of the state. Hitherto, between N300m and N400m was voted to sports development in the budgets," he noted.

He therefore urged other members of the public and corporate bodies to emulate the donor's gesture.

Earlier, Wole Faronbi of the Jani Ibrahim Baseball and Softball Equipment Support Progamme, said the programme would have commenced in 2011 but for logistic reasons.

Faronbi, an engineer, said the aim is to encourage base ball development in secondary schools in the state.
