Women Empowerment: Key to Socio - Economic Development - KWASU VC
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh has reiterated the need to empower more women for Nigeria to attain sustainable socio-economic development.
Professor Jimoh made this statement on Sunday June 04, 2023 a Lecture of the Federation of Muslim Women's Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Kwara State Chapter, as part of their annual FOMWAN week programme.
Professor Jimoh, who was the Chairman of the occasion, noted that women are the backbone of every family saying "a strong family unit is the foundation of a healthy and prosperous society".
The University helms-man therefore called on government at all levels "to ensure women continue to have access to the resources and opportunities they need to achieve self-sustainability and improved well-being".
The Ameerah of Kwara State Chapter of the FOMWAN, Hajia Bilqees Oladimeji in her welcome address, called on philanthropic individuals in the society to "help brilliant girls and boys achieve their life ambitions through bursary awards and sponsorships into professional and technical courses in higher institutions".
The lecture delivered by Dr. Mahmoud Danjuma Musa was on the theme of the FOMWAN week: "Achieving Self-Sustenance and Improved Family Well-being for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development: Roles of Every Individual".
The lecture which took place at the Secretariat of the Association in Ilorin, had in attendance a founding member and also a Member of FOMWAN BOT, Hajia Muslimah Kamaldeen; former Ameerahs of FOMWAN Hajia Zulfa Ishola and Hajia Maimuna Shehu; National Coordinator for FOMWAN North Central Zone II, Hajia Khadija Bello; a former Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Amina Ahmed and the Public Relations Officer of Kwara State Chapter of the FOMWAN, Dr. Saudat Abdulbaqi, among other state executives present.
